One of my favourite FFX characters - the jerk. He and his buddies, with their tiny strokes of characterization, their hazy view of Spiran life and their change in attitude whoops-just-as-one-of-their-own-was-hurt, make for very interesting side characters imho.

...if none of this seems to make sense - the third point in particular being more Ultimania canon than game canon - feel free to ask in the comments. I'm trying to keep the description as spoiler-free as I can, given the subject. :)

Btw the costume was made using the character model as reference. The butt mushrooms and their strings are game accurate to the best of my ability. :)

*faints* IT'S THE CREEPY MYSTERIOUS KID WITH THE FORESHADOWING HAMMER! Your paint job on the dharma wheel (if that's what it is? gosh, I just thought of that) is perfect: I love the shading. The design on the hood looks right from what I remember of my screencap / iconmaking. And the pose...yep, that works.

What do you call the little dangly things on the ribbons? I suspect they're yet another piece of Japanese symbolism / ritual objects in that game I was missing.

I would love to know more of the Ultimania canon you're referring to. I've devoured every scrap of pmog's translations, but somehow I missed this.

Speaking of geeky, I practically want to learn Japanese so I can read the Ultimania Omega guide of a ten-year-old game. Is this not sad?

And finally, an unabashed recommendation for one of the best Final Fantasy X fanfics out there (not my own). If you read fanfiction at all, I think you will like:

Clarion by Justira: the story of Braska's pilgrimage, with Bahamut's fayth as a Machiavellian figure behind the scenes.

Thanks a lot! Your comments are turning a very meh day around :)

I call'em butt mushrooms, as you've noticed :XD: But honestly, I have no idea what they may mean. A friend of mine who isn't much into FFX but knows the game and Japanese culture didn't go "No no dear they're not butt mushrooms they are [...]" either, so... no idea. I wrote a ficlet recently with a possible origin of the Bahamut fayth and I was torn on whether to include them, but I left them out in the end. The dharma wheel was covered, though.

I was just referring to the Fayths' 180 turn that should be in pmog's translations... at least I'm pretty sure I read it there. They were neutral toward Sin's cycle and the spiral of death, being more interested in the perks of shiny d!Zanarkand. Then Jecht happened and they had to come to terms with the fact that 'their people' could suffer for it too. This wake up call is what leads to their attitude during the game. I could swear that this is Ultimania canon with little to no influence of my own headcanons - then again, I have a terrible memory.
What exactly were they thinking when they let him try to go back on a pilgrimage with a single other guardian is anyone's guess. Either someone dies first or it's a 50% chance, buddies... but I can definitely see them pushing Braska's pilgrimage, as you say Justira did (and it turns out in my fics too, sometimes). Thanks a lot for the rec, I'll check it out! I love fics, but I'm more of a oneshot person, so it usually takes a rec for me to embark on a longfic XD That, and I'm not very familiar with the English-speaking FFXdom^^

As for the geeky wish, huh, seconded? XD Said ten-year-old game is still one of the most touching, better-structured and most cohesive stories ever told in a videogame, so... yeah. The bonus materials are out there and I want to know aaaaaaall they have to say. u_u

They are indeed. I really like how they managed to tie their one line of dialogue to a hint of personality that may be reflected in their Aeon... the little details make me love FFX's plot even more.
